Sing along: A little bit of soap will wash away those bad germs. That’s the tune sung by Wichita State germ expert Fawn Beckman, who says soap and water is better than hand sanitizers. Most people know there are germs, but not everyone realizes there are good germs and bad germs, she explained. Good bacteria is the best defense against bad germs, she said. The best way to reduce the number of bad germs is to wash your hands in soap and water, not hand sanitizers, although those can be used in a pinch, Beckman said. Soap and water kills bad germs but leaves the good germs but sanitizer kills all germs, she said. Killing good germs removes your best defense from bad germs and diseases, she said.
