OTTAWA — A new juvenile detention center is the focus of tonight’s county public building commission tonight at 6:30 at the county annex. The county commissioners will meet as the public building commission. They’re expected to vote to issue up to $3.6 million in special bonds to build the new juvenile detention center. The proposed bond issue was the target of a petition drive but the petitions weren’t filed in time to force an election. The county plans to buy the Neosho County Community College campus at Second and Beech as the site for the new juvenile detention. It will be one of the few times the public building commission meets. County administrator Lisa Johnson said that after tonight’s meeting, little will be heard of the public building commission for several months. The bonds probably won’t be issued until next April, she said. The county won’t finalize the deal for the Neosho campus until the college moves into its new campus in eastern Ottawa.
