LAWRENCE–If your wallet isn’t empty from Christmas shopping, then spending money on gas will. According to Jim Hanni, Executive Vice President of Public Affairs for Kansas AAA, gas prices could spike up to $3 per gallon by Christmas Day. Hanni said that there are three events that are contributing to the increase: after the European Union took steps to get itself out of debt, the Euro has strenghtened against the U.S. Dollar, Chinese manufacturing has increased, and job increase in the U.S. has occurred. The average gas price in Kansas is $2.74, a .14 cent increase from last year.
