WASHINGTON — U.S. Sen. Pat Roberts has been named the top Republican on the U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry. Roberts said the appointment gives him a position of power at a time when Congress is writing a new farm bill. Roberts said his top priorities is championing the interests of U.S. production agriculture which feeds the country and much of the world, protecting ag producers’ safety net and the federal crop insurance program, removing burdensome regulations and removing trade barriers to American agricultural products.
