GARNETT — After a fire destroyed the company’s main production facility at Garnett two weeks ago, Astro officials are looking for a new location to resume operations. Astro owner Bobby Combs, general manager Chris Ripper and other company officials met with employees to explain their efforts at a recent meeting. The company is modifying a small building at the Garnett site to resume limited production, Ripper said.
The Anderson County Review reported that Combs and Ripper told employees that the company must resume production of waterslides for its partner Splashtacular, of Paola; immediately and must begin production of its truck cap line within 90 days. As a result, the company can’t wait to rebuild its Garnett production facility, they said. They said they’ve been looking for available large buildings in Garnett and in nearby cities. KOFO has learned that at least one industrial site in Ottawa is one of those possibilities. At the time of the fire, Astro employed 60 people.
