OTTAWA–Two different families are winners of the 2010 Soil Conservation Awards and they were honored at Thursday night’s 70th Annual Meeting of the Franklin County Conservation District. The awards are sponsored by the Kansas Bankers Association. Mike Skidmore is with the Garnett State Savings Bank and says Terry and Glenda Mohr have an extensive operation. The other Soil Conservation winner was Kenny and Janice Claerhout of rural Princeton. Also, a third winner was announced for the Wildlife Habitat Award. Alfred Gonzales who owns land in Northwest Franklin County. He was honored for clearing invasive trees to improve habitat for upland birds. He also experiments with a variety of food plots and fruit trees as additional food resources for wildlife.
