GARNETT — A Larned police officer has been named Garnett’s new police chief. Kevin PeKarek is also the former police chief for Ellinwood and a former member of the Great Bend Police Department. He will start as chief on May 9. PeKarek told the Anderson County Review he intends to meet individually with each Garnett police officer, with business owners, members of the sheriff’s department and others as he learns more about the community. PeKarek was selected from among 24 applicants.
