LAWRENCE — Thirty-five runners from Douglas County law enforcement agencies will make the Lawrence to Ottawa leg of the annual Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run this morning. Douglas County Sheriff’s Sgt. Steve Lewis said the runners will leave for the 20-mile jaunt from Crown Toyota on South Iowa Street shortly after 8 and hand off the Special Olympic torch to members of Franklin County law enforcement agencies at the north Dairy Queen in Ottawa. From there, Ottawa and Franklin County officers will continue the torch run to Wichita, where it will arrive on Friday for the start of the Special Olympics.
