LAWRENCE — The driver of a pickup truck involved in a fatal accident last week on the South Lawrence Trafficway has been identified as a 20-year-old Baldwin City man. Cindy Burnett, 47, Lyndon, was killed May 31 west of Lawrence when a chunk of metal came off a trailer and pierced the windshield of the SUV her husband was driving.
The Lawrence Journal-World reported that Nicholas Rckhold told police that he didn’t know that a piece of scrap metal fell off his trailer and killed Burnett. He told police he had checked the load of metal on the trailer twice to make sure it was secure. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Department said the chunk of metal that killed Burnett was the tooth from the bucket of a front-end loader. The case has been forwarded to the Douglas County Attorney’s office.
