OTTAWA — The Elizabeth Layton Center continues to see state cuts in Medicaid funding, the center’s major source of revenue, for community mental health centers. During budget hearings Wednesday, Layton Center executive director Diane Drake said that state cuts are continuing. The state suddenly ordered the Layton Center to cut spending by $90,000 last month, she said. However, she says because of the economy, veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan, and other state cuts, the Layton Center is seeing a huge increase in the number of people asking for help, she said. The center is asking for a $7,500 increase in the budget for mental health services for next year. The Layton Center is receiving about $145,000 from the county this year.
