OTTAWA — National history champs Lindsay Frank and Anna Stone, recent Ottawa High School graduates head to National History Day competition in College Park, Md., this weekend to defend their national title. As part of this year’s theme on “Debate and Diplomacy,” they did their project about Soviet defector Igor Gouzenko. A diplomat in Canada who was fearful of Soviet dictator Josef Stalin’s wrath, Gouzenko defected to Canada shortly after World War II. His information about Soviet spying and the atomic bomb ignited the Cold War, they said. Stone and Frank – and Gouzenko – will be the focus of this Sunday morning’s edition of Community Perspective Sunday morning at 8:04.
