OTTAWA — A 51-year-old Arizona prison inmate is in the Franklin County jail in connection with an 11-year-old kidnapping and sexual assault in Ottawa. Ralph Corey was identified during a search by the Kansas Bureau of Investigation of a national DNA cold case library called the Codis database, an index of criminal justice DNA databases, Lt. Adam Weingartner said. The search indicates a possible match between Corey’s DNA profile and evidence collected by Ottawa police during the case, Weingartner said.. In the case Feb. 19, 2000, a 16-year-old teenager reported she was forced into her car, which was parked in the Wal-Mart SuperVenter parking lot by a man who grabbed her from behind. The girl told police he drove to another location and assaulted her. She told police that he drove her to a second location and again assaulted her. She was released and she reported the attack to police. Weingartner said detectives investigated possible suspects, collected forensic evidence, and exhausted all possible leads without identifying a suspect.
