GARNETT — The Garnett Ethanol Hydroplane Nationals will be this weekend at the Cedar Valley Reservoir outside Garnett. National hydroplane champ and race organizer Vernon Barfield, Wellsville, said about 50 racing teams from 20 states will take part. The lake is being set up to allow racers to set national speed records on Thursday and Friday, he said. The racers will try to break the 100-mile-an-hour mark over the eighth-of-a-mile course. Spectators can watch for free. Racing is Saturday and Sunday from noon to 5. Admission is $5 per person and every ticket includes a pit pass. The pits are on the south end of the lake.
