OTTAWA — Be prepared for fast and furious. The speed limit on I-35 is going up to 75 miles an hour. Because of a new state law, the speed between Emporia and just east of the Sunflower/Edgerton interchange in Johnson County will increase on July 1. Kansas Department of Transportation crews will start changing the speed limit signs on June 30. KDOT said the speed limits will be increased on multi-lane, limited access roads. The new speed limit will also be posted on other highways including I-70 from the Colorado border to Topeka, the Kansas Turnpike, U.S. 69 north of U.S. 54 to the 199th Street interchange in Johnson County, I-135 from a half-mile north of the 85th Street interchange in Harvey County to I-70 at Salina, and U.S. 81 from I-70 at Salina north to K-106.
