GARDNER — The news Web site Gardner Edge reports that the city of Gardner wants to take charge in the Take Charge Challenge. The Web site reports that so far, Bardner is in dead last in the energy-savings contest among Ottawa, Paola, Baldwin City and Gardner. The winning city will receive a $100,000 grant. Gardner is opening a special Take Charge headquarters to show residents how to make their homes more energy efficient and to train special energy auditors to check and suggest energy improvements in Gardner homes. Gardner Edge reported a PBS film crew will be in Gardner today as part of a documentary about the Take Charge Challenge. Several Kansas cities have taken part in several contests across the state to make the greatest energy savings.
