BALDWIN CITY — The Kansas Democratic Party filed an ethics complaint Wednesday against Rep. TerriLois Gregory, R-Baldwin City. The state Democrats say she violated a state law that prohibits the use of public resources for political campaigning. Gregory told the Lawrence Journal-World that she made a mistake by requesting campaign contributions in an e-mailed legislative newsletter sent from her state account. She said she apologizes and takes responsibility and will work with the Kansas Ethics Commission to avoid repetitions. Kansas Democratic Party executive director Kenny Johnston called the incident a serious lapse, especially for a representative touting her desire to cut government spending and save taxpayer dollars. In the newsletter, Gregory said she was trying to raise $25,000 by Aug. 25 for her 2012 re-election bid and sought contributions to help her reach that goal.
