OTTAWA — A 45-year-old Missouri man was seriously injured during a robbery at Forest Park shortly after midnight this morning. Ottawa police said Dennis Vaughn was taken to Overland Park Regional Hospital for treatment of serious but non-life-threatening injuries after he was beaten up when another man robbed him. Lt. Adam Weingartner said no weapon was used in the robbery. When officers responded to a disturbance call, they found Vaughn lying on the ground, Weingartner said. During the dispute, another took some of Vaughn’s possessions and beat him up, he said. Weingartner said he doesn’t know if Baughn was involved in the preparations for the Extreme Makeover Barbeque Throwdown tonight. Justin Shutt, 21, Ottawa, was booked into the Franklin County jail for aggravated battery and attempted aggravated robbery in connection with the incident.
