READING — Among the communities that have pitched in to help tornado-ravaged Reading, Kan. Reading, Mass. The Emporia Gazette reports that when residents in the Massachusetts city of 25,000 people heard about the May 21 tornado that killed one man and destroyed most of the homes and businesses in the town on the edge of Melvern Reservoir, they banded together to offer their help. Reading, Mass., town manager Peter Hechenbleikner told the Gazette the Massachusetts town now calls Reading, Kan., their little sister city. Youth and community groups have raised cash for Reading’s park and books for Reading’s library. Volunteers have also offered to head to Kansas to help rebuilding efforts and to replant many of the trees that were destroyed or damaged by the tornado.
