OTTAWA — Today’s Ottawa Career and Community Resources Fair aims to be a dating service for employers and employees. The Ottawa Area Chamber of Commerce and Ottawa/Franklin County Economic Development work on creating jobs and finding people to fill those jobs, and the two groups joined Goodwill Industries in putting on today’s jobs fair, said Tom Weigand, chamber of commerce and O/FCED president. “And sometimes that’s a challenge,” he said. Given the economy, there are a lot of people looking for jobs but there are jobs that are going unfilled, Weigand said, and he’d like to connect the two. The state’s main jobs bank, Kansas Works, will show up thanks to a new portable Kansas Works mobile career center, which will be parked in parking lot at the Ottawa Community Church, 824 W. 17th St., where the jobs fair is being held, said Sister Carlene, who’s ministry includes helping people find work. The fair will also offer advice on resumes and job-hunting skills, she said. The fair is today from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church.
