OSAWATOMIE — The surf’s up in Osawatomie. And perhaps, so will the sand. The Osawatomie Rotary Club has presented a proposal for a new beach and swimming area, a picnic area and beach volleyball courts at the Osawatomie City Lake. The Osawatomie Journal reported that the Rotarians are asking the city council to lift the swimming ban at the lake. The Rotary Club’s Dan Macek said the lake is an under-used community asset and the swimming area will be a benefit. The club will pay all the costs of creating the beach and swimming area. The club will also raise funds to replenish the sand and maintain the area in the future, he said. The Journal reported that city officials will meet with Johnson County Parks and Recreation officials for help planning the project.
