OTTAWA — The annual Walk Kansas health and fitness program started Sunday. However, Frontier Extension District’s Rebecca McFarland said there’s still time for teams to sign up. The deadline is March 30, she said. So far, a little more than 20 teams are signed up in Franklin County, she said. Teams walk the length of Kansas, or 423 miles, or those with a walking attitude, the perimeter of the state, which is 1,200. Participants also keep track of the fruits and vegetables they eat during the eight-week challenge, she said. The cost per six-member team is $18. Check the Web site at www.frontierdistrict.edu or call the Extension office.
