GARNETT — The Garnett American Legion Post 48 and the American Legion Riders are asking for help to replace about 40 American flags that line the streets of Garnett on some holidays and special occasions. The Anderson County Review reported the Legion groups have put up and taken down the flags along U.S. 59 and Fourth Street each of those holidays for 20 years. American Legion vice commander Ken Miller said the flags typically last about a year before they’re too damaged by the sun and weather. Each flag costs $20. The group recently replaced old flag holders along U.S. 59 and increased the number of holders along the highway from 40 to 50. Donations can be made to the American Legion Post 48, by mailing them to Ken Miller, 506 S. Main St., Garnett, KS 66032. Mark the memo line with “flags.”
