KANSAS CITY — As has been rumored, a Chinese firm has paid $2.6 billion to buy AMC Entertainment from a private investment group. The Wanda Group is one of the largest Chinese real-estate and entertainment group and is buying the second-largest theater chain in the United States, making it the world’s largest entertainment group. AMC has been in the Kansas City area since 1920, but the Kansas City Star reported Wanda intends to continue building the new AMC Entertainment headquarters in Leawood. The Brownback Administration offered the company a $47 million incentive package to move from downtown Kansas City. Wanda said it will modernize and improve many of the AMC theaters across the U.S. and use the theatre chain to funnel more Chinese movies into the U.S.
