TOPEKA – The Kansas secretary of agriculture is requesting help from the secretary of the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Dale Rodman has sent a letter to USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack urging the agency to extend emergency haying and grazing for land enrolled in the Conservation Reserve Program through November 30. The same thing was done last year without incurring a penalty in the form of rental payment reduction. Rodman says while the much-needed rainfall has provided some relief, there are still many portions of the state that remain in severe drought situations.
