GARNETT — Anderson County officials hope to recoup some of the $310,000 in delinquent property taxes, when the county holds its first tax sale in nearly a decade on Oct. 17. After years of delays, county officials have been completing the final details of the tax sale, the Anderson County Review reported. The last tax sale was in May 2004, which occurred more than 10 years after the previous tax sale in 1993, which in turn, occurred 26 years after the previous tax sale in 1967, the Review reported. This year’s tax sale has 56 properties on the list. County counselor James Campbell told county commissioners there were originally 91 properties on the first list. It’s likely owners will pay the past-due taxes before the sale, and the number of properties actually sold could be less, the paper said. The largest amount of unpaid property taxes is slightly more than $126,000 for property owned by Guest Home Estates. The smallest amount is for a lot in Westphalia, on which $92 are due.
