OTTAWA — The final design work on a new futuristic geothermal heating and cooling system for the Franklin County Courthouse is nearly done. County Administrator Lisa Johnson told Commissioners she’ll soon ask them to ask for bids to drill about 30 special wells in the yard that would draw heat for the Courthouse from the earth. She says construction would begin next spring and be completed before the end of next year. Commissioners say although the new system is more expensive, it would be cheaper to operate, be easier to maintain, be more environmentally friendly and would improve the historic looks of the courthouse.
