GARNETT — A 50-year-old Greeley man was injured as a result of a late Friday night police chase in Garnett. Jacob Hermreck, 27, Garnett was being pursued by Garnett police, the Kansas Highway Patrol said. Hermreck was driving a pickup truck south on Elm Street without headlights during the pursuit, the highway patrol said. As he tried to cross the Union Pacific Railroad crossing near Elm and 10th streets, he struck a guard rail on the south side of the railroad tracks, and continued into a residential yard, striking a fire hydrant and then a tree. Norman Shields, 50, Greeley, was a passenger in Hermreck’s truck, the highway patrol said. He was injured and was taken to Anderson County Hospital in Garnett. He wasn’t wearing a seat belt. Hermreck, who wasn’t wearing a seat belt, wasn’t injured.
