Starting yesterday, the Ottawa Police Department will be joining other Kansas Law Enforcement in cracking down on what many consider an epidemic. Last year, eight children 0-13, lost their lives in car crashes, most were not wearing seat belts.
According to the 2019 Kansas Seatbelt Survey, children are much more likely to be buckled up if the driver is wearing their seatbelt. If the driver is not buckled, over 30% of observed children were not buckled.
Sergeant Casey Gillmore with the Ottawa Police Department says parents make sure children have vaccines to prevent diseases but many don’t think about properly buckling for preventing serious injury.
Now through Friday, police will be extra vigilant when patrolling around schools. Please slow down, eliminate distractions and always buckle up, because even one child’s death is unacceptable. Make It Click.
