Another edition of the KOFO Good People Award. Yesterday afternoon, Tuesday, August 23, the Osage County Sheriff’s office received a call they had never received before. A desperate call came in from someone reporting that one of their pets was in great danger and they needed help. The caller said a kitten had fallen into a 30 foot deep cistern and may be injured and wanted to know if there was anything they could do to help. Osage County Fire District Number 1, Carbondale Fire and Osage County EMS arrived on the scene and found the problem. After some brainstorming between the groups, they fitted a fish net to an extremely long pole. Sheriff Chris Wells was able to get the net down to the kitten and scoop him up and slowly lift it out of the cistern.
It took incredible team work and we are happy to report the kitten was saved and miraculously uninjured. For their efforts, they are receiving the KOFO Good People Award.
Thank you to all the first responders who go above and beyond to protect, not only us human animals, but all animals.
