About three months ago a Wellsville woman was at a school function when she stared death in the face. Benita Wilson was at Wellsville Elementary on May 12th when she suffered a full cardiac arrest. Several members of the audience jumped in to give her lifesaving treatment. Wilson was at a Wellsville City Council Meeting recently to thank some of the gathered guests who were her lifesavers:
Police Chief Danny Hackler handed out several Lifesaver Awards to citizens who helped Wilson stay alive. He says it took an automated external defibrillator four times sending an electric shock before Wilson’s heart responded. He says bystanders probably worked for 30 minutes to stabilize her. Thankfully, she only had to spend a couple of days in the hospital and appears to be doing fine today.
