Most of us know that a La Nina weather pattern can cause devastating effects on weather and climate, world wide. But what happens when meteorologists call for a “Triple Dip” La Nina? La Nina is a climate pattern caused by large scale cooling of the ocean surface temperatures in the Central and Eastern Equatorial Pacific Ocean. According to the World Meteorological Organization, parts of the world are expected to experience severe weather for the rest of the year and into 2023, as part of a rare “Triple Dip La Nina” Event, a multi year cooling of the ocean.
This would be the first Triple Dip of this century, but, it’s not unprecedented as several have occurred in the past. This El Nina has caused droughts in North and South America and Eastern Africa. It is also linked to floods in Asia. So, what does that mean for us, here in good ol’ Kansas? Above average temperatures through the fall season, then below normal temperatures for December through February with above normal precipitation. Remember the Farmers Almanac Prediction: A hibernation zone, glacial and snow packed… it could be on its way.
