One political race of interest for Miami County voters is the House District Number 6 race. Republican incumbent Samantha Poetter Parshall, of Paola, will face challenger Nina Fricke, of Bucyrus. Frick says the top three priorities for her, if elected, are property tax reduction and eliminating the sale tax on food, hygiene products and over the counter medication. Second, funding the school fully, including special education. Third, health care issues, including reproductive rights, medicaid expansion, and medical marijuana.
Poetter-Parshall says her priorities include lowering the tax burden on Kansans, starting by removing the state income tax on Social Security and retirement accounts, expanding the property tax refund for disabled veterans and seniors on a fixed income, cover all disabled veterans and all seniors and, ensuring parental rights are protected as well as second amendment rights.
