Thursday was Winter Weather Awareness Day in Kansas, a day set aside to prepare for the cold, snow, and ice expected during the winter season in Kansas. It is a day to promote safety preparedness for the potentially hazardous weather that winter brings each year. The National Weather Service says, despite the farmers almanac prediction of a very cold snowy winter, temperatures here should be about normal, with average precipitation expected. However, we are in a weather pattern called a la nina, and if it strengthens, that could change.
The bottom line is– be prepared for winter. Expect ice, snow, cold temperatures and be prepared to drive in it if you must. KOFO will be presenting tips and reminders for the winter over the next several weeks to help you get to your destination safely and keep your home warm and cozy. We’ll start Monday with a story on causes of injury and death on our roads.
