Garnett residents and the City Commission want to expand the Neighborhood Revitalization Program, designed to give a tax rebate as an incentive for developers to build houses and homeowners to do repairs to their properties. Garnett City Commissioner, Jason Sheahan says he expected proposals to center on increasing the amount of rebate and possibly extending the period of time those benefits are in effect.

Anderson County Development Agency Director, Julie Turnipseed said last week whatever changes are made will require new authorizing documents to be signed by the city, county and school district to formally affect any changes. Right now, the plan offers a 95% rebate on an improved property as long as it has a $5,000 increase in appraised value from the improvement.
