Governor Laura Kelly has appointed Miami County District Attorney Elizabeth Sweeney-Reeder, and Osawatomie Attorney, Richard Fisher to fill two Judgeship positions in the 6th Judicial District. The 6th District covers Miami, Linn and Bourbon Counties. Kelly says Sweeney-Reeder’s history of public service as a prosecutor in Miami County is high level. Sweeney-Reeder says she is honored and she has dedicated her career to serving the community and is looking forward to continuing that quest.
Regarding Fisher’s appointment, the Governor says his courtroom experience and diverse legal background make him well-prepared for the position and will serve him well in his transition to the bench. Fisher says he has devoted his career to the 6th District providing integrity, fairness, judicial access, attention, respect and will continue in his new role.
District Court Judges in the 6th Judicial District are appointed by the Governor and selected from nominees chosen by a District Nomination Commission. Judges in Nominating Commission Districts are subject to retention elections every four years.
