Two people were found shot to death yesterday morning in the 700 block of East 1550 Road in Douglas County in Baldwin City. The Douglas County Sheriff’s office says they found 55-year-old David Koch, and his teenage daughter, 13-year-old Hyden Koch, dead from gunshot wounds. They say initial evidence indicates both were killed by gunshots, with David’s appearing to be self-inflicted. Spokesperson for the Douglas County Sheriff’s office George Diepenbrock says the investigation is ongoing. Other details of the incident, including a motive, haven’t been released by investigators.
Other details about the victims and family aren’t immediately clear, however, a spokesman for the City of Lawrence confirmed that a David Koch was an employee of the city, working as a maintenance worker in its Municipal Services & Operations Division.
Hayden was a student in the Baldwin School District. There will be counselors available at the schools today in Baldwin for those needing to talk about the situation.
