The updating of older electrical circuits to new ones is very costly and that’s one reason the Ottawa City Commission is being asked to raise electrical rates. Ottawa Utilities Director, Dennis Tharp told Commissioners about a downtown project:
Tharp says altogether the project will cost about $12 million. Commissioners are being asked to approve about a 30% increase over five years. Commissioners expressed uneasiness with the request, considering electric rates were increase 20% just a couple years ago. The matter will be discussed at future Study Sessions.
