Ottawa City Commissioners have been presented a proposal for a substantial electric rate increase for city customers. Up to 30%. Part of the reason for another increase in electrical rates is the tremendous expense of maintaining the town’s electrical system. The proposal calls for up to a 30% increase over five years. Utilities Director Dennis Tharp says the downtown electrical circuit is being updated.
Tharp says the total project would cost around $12 million ……he also says the cost of other electrical items….such as transformers….have really skyrocketed. This would be the third increase in the past three years. Electric rates in ottawa went up 9% in October of 2019 and another 10% in January of 2020.
