A fire destroyed an Osawatomie home early Wednesday morning, December 14th, but the man living in the house was able to escape without injury. Captain Ed Beaudry of the Osawatomie Fire Department says the call came in at 2:44 in the morning Wednesday. Osawatomie firefighters quickly arrived at 733 Brown Avenue and found the home engulfed in flames. The man living there had already escaped the home, and the firefighters took a defensive approach to the fire as they worked to protect the neighboring homes. Neighbors say the man pounded on their doors to warn them of the fire. The fire was under control by 6:30 that morning, but firefighters remained on scene until 1:30 that afternoon. Osawatomie firefighters received mutual aid from the Paola and Fontana fire departments.

The Kansas State Fire Marshal office determined the cause of the fire to be accidental relating to a wood fireplace.
