Garnett City Commissioners want a major restructuring of the Garnett Housing Authority Board membership in order to push ahead with a Commission Wish List of initiatives that current board members have been reluctant to embrace in recent years, and support an ordinance allowing board members to not live in the city limits.
Commissioner Jody Cole says they have had multiple meetings and it seems that nobody on the board seems interested in obtaining housing of any type for Garnett and wants to move forward with the ordinance in hope of having the flexibility to appoint members who would press for more housing. Three years ago, planners thought a development of new senior housing would free up existing private residences. The Housing Authority wanted to wait a couple of years before pursuing a housing expansion.
