Fire crews were called to 4100 Marshall Road, near Rantoul, late Tuesday night on a report of a barn fire. The call came in at 11:23 that night and when crews arrived on scene, they found a barn, owned by 49-year-old Gilberto Matias, of Rantoul, fully engulfed in flames. Fire fighters took a defensive position and worked to extinguish the flames for quite some time before getting it under control. Unfortunately, the barn was completely destroyed by the blaze. After investigation, it is believed that the barn caught fire due to an electrical issue. The loss was estimated at $20,000.
