The Sears store in Ottawa is closing. The store is owned by Mark Feldkamp, who invested in Ottawa by purchasing the former Woolworths building in Downtown Ottawa in 1994. They opened as “Feldkamp’s Furniture”, offering furniture, mattresses and appliances. In 2008, Feldkamp’s closed the store to consolidate with their Manhattan store. However, they realized that left Ottawa with a gap in service, so they reopened as a Sears store in 2010, offering appliances, furniture, mattresses, tools and lawn & garden items. Unfortunately, Sears has filed for bankruptcy, so the store will be closing. But…never fear! Long time Manger of the store,, Baily Adams says she will open the store as an independent store. I spoke with Bailey recently and she says they are hoping to offer the same high quality service that Sears has offered the past several years and she looks forward to serving Ottawa. There will be some changes, she says, but she is hoping Ottawa will continue to have a hometown appliance center to serve them for years to come.
