Is a new pool in the works for Garnett? A new pool had an added push last month, when a report from a St. Louis-area pool construction company estimated a cost of replacement for the pool at $2.5-$3.5 million. Discussions about the pool have been brought up a few times over the past decade – seemingly every time some kind of repair is needed at the facility. The issue’s been a dilemma for city officials, since the pool is expensive to operate and even more expensive to replace – but is a staple of local youth activity in the summer months.
Dave Weicher with St. Charles, Missouri based Capri Pools & Aquatics, told the commission that considering the pool’s age, he didn’t recommend repairing or upgrading with the existing pool shell and building. He says the main drain in the pool doesn’t meet modern safety requirements and the bath house needs work to be ADA compliant. The pool itself was constructed as part of the Works Project Administration during the Great Depression of the mid 1930s
