Las week, the Ottawa Police Department announced the death of a 22 year-old man as the result of fentanyl overdose, along with several close calls in which victims were revived using the drug narcan, which can, but not always, reverse the symptoms of an overdose. Police Chief Adam Weingartner has a message for the public:
The pills involved in the majority of the cases in Ottawa are marked “M-30” and look professionally made. According to the Drug Enforcement Website, the pills resemble oxycodone pills but are called Mexican Blues, Blues or M-Boxes. They have different ingredients than the actual medication and they may contain no active ingredient, the wrong active ingredient and likely contain lethal amounts of fentanyl or methamphetamine. They are extremely dangerous because they often appear identical to legitimate prescription pills and the user is likely unaware of how lethal they can be. If you have any of these pills, call the Ottawa Police and let them know where you got them.
