The 2023 Kansas Legislative Session is set to begin Monday, January 8, and one topic that is likely to come to the forefront quickly is the issue of medical marijuana. Governor Kelly has said that legalizing marijuana for medical use is a common sense solution that helps people with severe illnesses. How far will she go to make it happen?

Kansas is one of 13 states that has not legalized marijuana for medicinal use. It is one of just three that does not have a program for CBD with low THC levels. Lawmakers say if a version of medical marijuana passes in Kansas it would be extremely limited. They fear it would open the door to recreational use and view the wide availability of medical marijuana in states like Missouri, Colorado, and Oklahoma with caution.
