For the past year, the Ottawa Police Department has worked to realign management in certain positions in the department to better serve the community and department employees. A new division has been announced…the Community Outreach Programs and Services Division, or COPS, for short. Police Chief Adam Weingartner says that they do so much in the community, they needed a way to better align the division with the programs and personnel that they have working them:
He adds that this will allow the Patrol Division Commander to focus more on daily patrol functions, the Investigative Division Commander to focus more on investigations and be more effective. The “COPS” Division is getting ready to start the “DARE” campaign with elementary 5th grade students. Information went home to students about the program yesterday.
