A Proclamation Ceremony honoring Dr. Martin Luther King will be held this morning at the Kansas State Capital on the first floor Rotunda. The Kansas African American Affairs Commission will host the Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. march around the Statehouse to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Following the march, guests will move inside to the first-floor Rotunda for a Proclamation Ceremony.

Angela Bates from the Nicodemus Historical Society will deliver a Keynote Address and the Proclamation will be read by Ms. Carolyn Wims-Campbell, a member of the Kansas State Board of Education, the first African American to serve on the Board, and known around the Statehouse as an expert on segregation in Topeka, having grown up in that era and has been involved in shaping public policy in Topeka and the State of Kansas.
