Career and technical education was a focal point of the Paola School Board’s most recent Bond Work session. The focus may be on a career and technical education addition to Paola High School that could allow for onsite automotive classes. PHS students currently travel to Garnett for automotive and HVAC classes
Scott Grandon, a 1979 grad of Paola High is a retired member of Pipefitters Local 533. He says it’s important to make students as hireable as possible to local contractors. He suggested partnering with the Mechanical Contractors Association of Kansas City and Doherty Steel and Forge Engineer Systems and other companies. Principal Jeff Hines says he is proud of the technical education classes at the high school. Some of those classes include welding, woodworking, drafting, culinary arts and animal science. Students also can travel to Garnett for automotive and HVAC classes.
