Miami County Commissioners learned more money would be needed to correct a flaw in the county’s election machines that allows voters to change ballot styles — whether it be done by accident or misdeed. In May 2019 they purchased 125 Express Vote Tabulators for $685,220 from Election Systems & Software. A glitch allowed two voters to change their ballot styles in November. County Clerk/Election Office Janet White says a Paola voter went to the correct polling location at the Paola American Legion, but somehow was able to vote using a Louisburg District 3 Ballot, only being offered at the Louisburg United Methodist Church.
The same thing happened at the Spring Hill Community Center, where someone was able to vote using an East Middle Creek 3 Ballot style that should have only been available at the Circle Grove Polling location.
White says it’s a huge concern, especially when a race is very close.
