Have you ever seen a snowy owl? Probably not, the all white owl is known to spend the majority of its time in Northern Canada and are best known to nest in regions in the arctic. So, authorities in Lane County, Kansas, just east of Scott City in western Kansas, were a bit surprised that a snowy owl was spotted there. The bird was injured and appeared to be malnourished and exhausted. Officials with the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks assisted in capturing the owl and it was take to a rehabilitation facility and is expected to make a full recovery. It was the first time a snowy owl had been documented in Lane County. On occasion, there will be a sighting around here. One was spotted in Osage County in 2021, and a few seen in the Cheyenne Bottoms during very cold winters.
Keep your eyes peeled, according to the Kansas Department of Wildlife, there may be more headed our way later this winter.
